We are an internationally respected independent membership body with over 3,800 professional members, supporting people and businesses through knowledge sharing and professional recognition. Our membership comprises individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, from students to experts, working across a wide range of disciplines within the sector. We are a registered charity (no 1121681) and a company limited by guarantee (no 930776).

A new era
The Chartered Institute of Food Science and Technology
In 2025 the Institute was awarded the Royal Charter by the Privy Council. IFST is making the transition to become the Chartered Institute of Food Science and Technology — marking a new era after more than sixty years since incorporation.
